Our Platforms

Founded in 2015, the Communication & Media Studies Research Network began as a meeting place for scholars and professionals committed to exploring how media and communication shape public life. It has since evolved into a global conversation spanning disciplines, cultures, and technologies—bringing together perspectives from communication theory, journalism, digital media, cultural studies, and visual communication.

Annual Conference:

The International Conference on Communication & Media Studies is hosted each year in partnership with a leading university. The conference invites academics, media professionals, and policy thinkers to share research, case studies, and innovations addressing the dynamics of communication in a globalized, digital age.

Journal:

The Journal of Communication and Media Studies publishes peer-reviewed research on how communication and media shape social life—bridging empirical and theoretical work from across the humanities and social sciences.

The Communication & Media Studies Book Imprint features monographs and edited collections that examine media systems, communication ethics, and technological transformation from interdisciplinary perspectives.

Online Community:

The Communication & Media Studies Community is also a digital community hosted on CGScholar, a collaborative research environment developed by Common Ground Media Lab. Through the Community App, members share profiles, connect with peers, and participate in the Knowledge Experience (KX)—an integrated system that extends the life of the Network, supporting ongoing dialogue, showcasing new research, and creating pathways for meaningful scholarly engagement across the communication and media fields.

Leadership

The Network is chaired by Dr. Eric Freedman, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Truman State University, USA, with Jesús Miguel Flores Vivar, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, serving as the Spanish Network Chair. Together they foster international and bilingual engagement across the Network’s programs.

Network Partners
